Every once in a while, it’s pretty common to see huge commercial containers or “skips” as they’re called in Ireland, outside of people’s homes. Usually, they’re booked by homeowners who are doing some redecorating or moving, or they are supplied to an entire estate, to get rid of older, unwanted stuff. To rent one of these skips is inexpensive, and it also saves time in having to drive out to ditch your stuff.
What some people don’t know; however, is that often, these skips are filled with valuable goods, ranging from fully functioning electronics to furniture. While in Dublin we have a community of “skip -divers” who even post their findings in a Facebook group, — many people still don’t know what they are missing, and how valuable a lot of that stuff is.
Even I’m shocked at the good-quality material I see in these skips, without even having to rummage through it. So far, I’ve come across bookshelves, art supplies, bedside tables, chairs, wood panels, lamps – all of which most of us go to IKEA for! Plus, a lot of these things also cost money, so it makes sense that people are picking it up for nothing. I’ve even heard of others selling the things they’ve found and earned a nice side income from it, too.
The main thing we often see is old cribs. I’m guessing that after the kid is grown up, the parents don’t know what to do with the crib, and if they don’t know who to give it to, they choose the easiest option – tossing it. This is why today we’re going to talk about what to do with an old crib that you found or one you may have at home.
Below, you’ll find some creative old crib ideas, to make some cool stuff such as a reading nook using the crib rails, or a craft station! So check out some of our repurposed baby crib ideas for extra inspiration.
